Therizinosaurus
⋆⁺₊⋆ ☀︎ ⋆⁺₊⋆
Group Limits
- Gaggle
- 1 Adult Gobbler, 4 Adult Hens.
- Gang
- 5 Related Toms
- If there are 6 or more siblings, they must split into groups of 3.
- Gangs will fall apart after a few days of travel due to various reasons. They will not defend each other
- Rafter
- 5 Related Hens
- If there are 6 or more siblings, they must split into groups of 3.
- Rivalry
- 3 Unrelated Toms
- Only during the Wilting Season in search of a mate.
- After Wilting Season, the Toms return to being solo.
Nest Limits
- Blooming Season: 1 egg, 5-hour Interval
- During this time, every Hen in the Gaggle may lay one egg together, and raise their young together.
- Scorching Season: 1 egg, 8-hour Interval
- During this season, only one Hen may lay an egg in the group, and if the egg hatches, due to the food struggle, they may become extremely stressed raising their offspring, and if proven too difficult the offspring may be neglected.
- Wilting Season: 2 eggs, 3-hour Interval
- In a full Gaggle, every Hen will lay two eggs together. The wilting season proves to be the best time to lay eggs, as their food sources are at their best condition.
- Frosting Season: 0 egg, 0-hour Interval
- Hens can lay eggs during this time and become broody, but the eggs will never hatch.
Sexual Dimorphism
- Sexual Dimorphism is Mandatory.
- Male Therizinosaurus have quills on their back, which they use to reflect damage back onto their opponent while protecting their harem. Male Therizinosaurus may be any color.
- Suitable subspecies for Males: Cheloniformis
- Female Therizinosaurus lack quills, and will be extremely dull in coloration in order to blend in with the trees. Female Therizinosaurus may not contain white.
- Suitable subspecies for females: Cheloniformis (Variant 1), Cheloniformis (Variant 2), Cheloniformis (Variant 3)
Habitat
- Nomadic / Territorial
- Likes: Dense Woodland and Sparse Woodland
- Dislikes: Beaches, Deserts, and Valleys
Activity
- Diurnal
- Therizinosaurus are diurnal, however, there will always be at least one Therizinosaurus awake in a group keeping watch for predators. Lone Therizinosaurus may have paranoid insomnia, and may constantly wake up to the smallest sound. Paranoid insomnia causes the Therizinosaurus to be exhausted, and though they may catch threats quickly during the night, tired Therizinosaurus may not register threats during the day until the last minute.
Diet
- General Herbivore, Food: Aggressive, Ant-Eater
- Therizinosaurus prefer berries and fruit, however, if they ever come across bugs, they will snack on them as a treat. After eating bugs, Therizinosaurus may become temporarily less aggressive towards small dinosaurs.

Growing Behaviours
Hatchling
After hatching, young Therizinosaurus are very loud and wet. Their mother will eat the eggshell after hatching, leaving no eggshells behind. The mother lays near, but does not attempt to calm the poults. This is so that the poults may have a source of warmth, but remain noisy for the Gobbler to hear. After a period of rest, Poults are quick to get to their feet and follow after the first thing they see.
Poults are extremely noisy, constantly chirping softly, only growing louder to mimic the adults. If Poults are silent, the Gobbler may kill the silent Poult, thinking it is sick.
When a threat is present, hatchlings will not realize it’s a threat, and will not run. They will stick close to their mothers until they hear the sound of her being hurt - only then will they flee from their mother.
Juvenile
Juvenile Therizinosaurus will begin to quiet down, only making noise when copying their mothers. These young Therizinosaurus learn early what each sound means. When juvenile Therizinosaurus are faced with a threat, they still will not know it’s a threat until they hear their mother’s distress call. Once they hear the call, juveniles will flee towards the other Hens of the Gaggle. The juvenile Therizinosaurus sticks within five body lengths of the mother, only leaving her side when the mother creates her stress call. Only then will they flee into the bushes, and hide from the danger. Sometimes, the mother may make a distress call just to get some peace.
They become curious of their surroundings, pecking at objects such as branches or pinecones on the ground and showing them off to their mother. If their mother shows her approval of the object, the juvenile Therizinosaurus will carry it with them until they become bored of the object. If the mother does not respond, the young will drop the object, and attempt to find a new one.
Adolescent
Adolescent Therizinosaurus no longer follow their mothers so closely, but will still generally stay nearby. When they see their mothers being aggressive with smaller dinosaurs, they will mimic the behavior, internalizing it.
Slowly they begin learning how to protect their food sources, and keep personal space, learning this from the rest of the group.
- Jakes will begin playfighting with each other, learning how to spar and fight for courting and protection.
- Jennies will begin watching the sparring of the Jakes, and if they notice their brothers fighting in what they perceive as dishonorable ways, they will attempt to keep that brother off of food until the parents step in.
Sub/Adult
Sub-Adults are considered Adults. Sub-adult Therizinosaurus, now fully capable, are quick to separate from their group, though prefer to stick close to their siblings and half siblings.Sub-adult Therizinosaurus separate into two different groups depending on gender, and remain in this group until they find mates, or until they become aggressive with each other.
Once they become a full adult, male Therizinosaurus will start fighting for dominance, and soon after their group quickly falls apart. Once alone, adult male Therizinosaurus will search for mates.
Female Therizinosaurus are far more likely to stay together in their group until they find a mate, at which point they will leave the group.
Orphan Behaviours
- Orphan Therizinosaurus will cry out for their mother when they hatch, only stopping when they realize they’re alone. These Orphan Poults, though still noisy, are not nearly as noisy as other young Therizinosaurus, and eventually may end up completely silent if they do not happen to come across any other dinosaurus.
- Therizinosaurus will imprint on anything it sees, even if it’s smaller than itself. It will continue to follow this dinosaur until sub-adult, and only then it will it lose interest in following their adoptive parent as instincts kick in.
Social Behaviours
- Therizinosaurus are extremely social dinosaurs. Once in a group, they will copy any sound their group members make together. This behavior is called an Opera, and sometimes the group may end up locked in song if excited.
- An Opera must not continue for over 5 minutes.
- A Therizinosaurus Pecking Order decides what order each Therizinosaurus eats. The Gobbler always eats first, and from there his first mate will eat, and then his first mate’s favorite friend may eat. After those three have eaten, the last two may either eat together, or fight for the rights to eat first, depending on the personality of the particular Therizinosaurus.
- Broody Therizinosaurus may adopt and protect anything with feathers if it is able, but if the feathered dinosaur is a carnivore, she will chase it away the moment she realizes.
- Therizinosaurus frequently adopts and keeps Citipati, even as the Citipati is an adult, but the Citipati remains at the very bottom of the Pecking Order, only eating once every other Therizinosaurus has fed.
- If a Gobbler gets into a fight, and the Hens perceive his fighting as dishonorable, the Hens may refuse to hatch their eggs for him until he proves himself an honorable Gobbler once more. Additionally, depending on the individual, the Hen may peck at the Gobbler if he attempts to get close to her while she is still angry with him.
- The Gobbler may choose whether or not to tolerate the pecking Hen.
- If the Gobbler pecks back at the Hen, the other Hens in the Gaggle may perceive his actions as dishonorable.
- See notes for more information on dishonor punishments.
Interspecies Behaviours
- Any dinosaur who is medium tier or below will be chased and attacked as some form of amusement. Therizinosaurus takes great joy in seeing smaller dinosaurs flee from them.
- They will stop once the other species gets at least 10 body-lengths away from their food source.
- Therizinosaurus may ignore engagement timers if the dinosaur gets within five body lengths of them.
- Therizinosaurus are nervous of and will tolerate herbivores who are apex or above, but avoid being too close to them. If the herbivore does not eventually leave within 20 minutes, Therizinosaurus will be forced to find a new food resource.
- If a female Therizinosaurus is broody, she may adopt young Citipati, believing it to be a strange looking, sickly Therizinosaurus chick. Therizinosaurus will not chase off the adopted Citipati as an adult, but will strike the adult Citipati if it tries to eat with the rest of the Therizinosaurus. Citipati may only eat when no Therizinosaurus is eating.
Territorial Behaviours
- Therizinosaurus in a Gaggle are territorial over food. They will fight anything that gets close to their food sources, but may tolerate adopted citipati.
- Therizinosaurus who are alone OR in a Gang or Rafter are purely nomadic.
Hunting/Hunted Behaviours
- Females in a Gaggle will alert call and flee from any carnivore large or above, only turning to fight if the carnivore lands a hit on them. If it retreats or turns away, the hen will resume fleeing.
- The Male of the Gaggle will always fight the carnivore in order to protect his mates.
- Once the Male has defeated the carnivore, he will call out, and the females will return.
- If the carnivore is medium or below, they will NOT alert call, and will instead bully the carnivore.
- If in a Gang or a Rafter, all unengaged Therizinosaurus will run and then watch the fight between the engaged Therizinosaurus and the attacker from a distance. The engaged Therizinosaurus will not flee.
- If solo, Therizinosaurus regardless of gender will turn and fight only when they realize they cannot run.
Engagement Limits
- Gaggles
- 1 Gobbler + 2 Hens
- Female Therizinosaurus may ONLY fight to defend herself, and MUST immediately resume fleeing once no longer being attacked.
- However, if chicks are being attacked, a max of two Hens may join the fight, and will remain in the fight in order to keep her chicks safe.
- Gang or Rafter
- 1 Adult
- A non-engaged Therizinosaurus may defend itself only until it is no longer being attacked, then it must flee.
Courtship
- Toms will gather in groups of 3 during the Wilting Season, called a Rivalry OR Therizinosaurus Gangs will travel together, and once they come across a Rafter or a Lone Hen, the group will begin to fight to prove their strength.
- To Brawl, the Toms will throw false swipes at one another until one charges in.
- The Tom who is not within the fight will simply watch until the Brawl has concluded.
- The Brawl continues on until one Tom reaches half health, at which the fight must pause, and the two Toms will stare at each other for a few moments, before the Tom at half health either decides to continue, or flee.
- If the Tom chooses to continue, the fight will go on until one of them dies.
- Once the first Brawl has completed, the spectating Tom may choose to fight, or to flee.
- If the Tom decides to fight, he is encouraged to wait until the battle worn Tom regains his strength. If he does not, the Hens will not respect him, and have a high chance to reject him. This does not apply if the battle worn Tom charges the spectating Tom first.
- Once the Brawling has completed, Female Therizinosaurus will pick their favorite male. Male Therizinosaurus may choose to keep these females, or cherrypick which ones they keep and which they don’t.
- If a Tom who’s travelling alone comes across a Rafter, he will begin to slash at the air in a fake Brawl with an invisible enemy. This display is usually unimpressive, but a younger female Therizinosaurus may still be impressed.
- Once a Male Therizinosaurus has gotten a mate, he will travel in order to help the females find a good nesting spot. Female Therizinosaurus may bicker with one another on nesting spots at first, but once one is found, they will work together to build nests.
- If a Male Therizinosaurus doesn’t have a full 4 mates, he may take in lone females who come across his Gaggle without a courtship display.
